We spend so much of life thinking something else will finally make us complete—more stability, a different circumstance, the right relationship, or simply getting past the struggle in front of us. But in Ephesians 1:7, Paul points the believer back to what is already ours in Christ: “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” Our greatest possession is not something we are still waiting to receive. It is Jesus Christ Himself and everything that is ours because we are in Him.
Redemption means that Christ has paid the price to free us from a bondage we could never escape ourselves. We could not overcome the penalty of sin, satisfy the demands of the law, or make ourselves acceptable to God. But Jesus willingly gave Himself, and His blood was sufficient. His finished work means the believer’s redemption is not tentative or dependent upon our performance. The price has been paid. In Christ, we have forgiveness, freedom from condemnation, and a standing before God that rests entirely upon what Jesus has done.
That changes the way we live. We no longer have to spend our lives searching for something in this world to give us the satisfaction, value, or security we already possess in Christ. His grace frees us—not to live for ourselves, but to live for Him and love others. Whatever circumstances surround us this week, the great reality remains: we have been redeemed, we belong to Christ, and Jesus is enough.
