God's Design for His Body

· By EastonBC · 1 min read

What makes someone valuable in the church? Pastor Jake Reid points to Paul’s picture of the body in 1 Corinthians 12 to confront both the feeling that we have little to offer and the pride that says we do not need others. God has placed each member in the body according to His design. Responsibilities may differ, but a member’s worth is not measured by visibility, talent, or prominence.

Paul says the members that seem weaker are necessary. The eye needs the hand, and the head needs the feet. In the same way, the church depends on people whose service may go unnoticed: someone who listens to a hurting member, writes a card, prepares a meal, or cares for someone unable to attend. God designed the body without divisions, so that its members would have the same care for one another. When one suffers, all suffer; when one is honored, all rejoice.

That care is more than a ministry strategy or a personality trait. Pastor Jake connects it to the mercy and love God showed us in Christ when we were dead in our sins. As believers walk with Christ, remain in His Word and prayer, and serve one another, the gospel shapes a church where no one is forgotten or left behind.

Listen to this teaching from 1 Corinthians 12 and consider how the love Christ has shown us should shape the way we care for every member of His body.
